Sault Ste. Marie, MI, December 9th, 2013:  This Christmas season is bringing hundreds to downtown Sault Ste. Marie for shopping, in-store treats and specials, horse-drawn carriage rides, and photographs with Santa as locals continue to celebrate the season.

Downtown Sault Ste. Marie hosted the first of two Christmas Open House activities this past weekend, and the community came out in full force to support local merchants and enjoy the beauty of Christmas downtown.  This Saturday, December 14th the Christmas Open House will continue from 11:00am and 4:00pm along Ashmun and Portage streets.

On this Saturday, December 14th, The Atrium at Community Action Avery Square will serve as a central hub of activity featuring the following:

        Photographs with Santa

        An enchanted Christmas tree forest

Caroling and music throughout the day

Readings of “The Night Before Christmas” by Lindsey and Chelsea Fritz

Performances by the Sault All-Star Cheerleading Squad

Free gift bags for the first 250 visitors

The experience of shopping at more than thirty retail stores downtown drew crowds downtown this past weekend, and again shoppers will have a chance to win $150 in “downtown dollar” gift certificates donated by the Downtown Development Authority.  For a chance to win the $150, shoppers must visit at least five individual retail stores.  Store checklists will be available at both Avery Square and the shops around downtown.

Many downtown retailers will be offering refreshments for shoppers on Saturday, as well as specials and gift wrapping.   Other points of interest include Bell Farms’ Belgian horse-drawn wagon rides for families this weekend.  Be sure to visit downtown Sault Ste.
