2016 Lake State Summer Bash
August 27th, 3 – 11 PM at the Downtown Farmer’s Market Pavilion
This annual event is a collaboration of Lake Superior State University Campus Life Office (WLSO) and the DDA to bring Downtown businesses and the community together to welcome LSSU students back to campus during Laker Week before classes begin. Come listen to live Michigan bands and a DJ at the corner of Ashmun and Portage at Downtown Farmer’s Market Pavilion. Community members are invited to attend and enjoy the free music too! There will be a shuttle to and from campus for students only provided by LSSU.
WLSO, the LSSU radio station, will also be celebrating their transition from FM radio to internet radio.
Kody Stieve: Kody is a LSSU student that will be playing a couple 30 minute sets while the other bands load onto stage.
The Waxies: In 19th-century Dublin, a union of cobblers (known as “waxies” for their waterproofing wax) grew famous for throwing wild parties to spite the rich townsfolk and their extravagant caravans. Then, in 21st-century Grand Rapids, a new incarnation of The Waxies came together to incite some revelry of their own. A folk lineup combined with rock energy make for a knock-down, drag-out, hell-of-a-good-time show. Since The Waxies’ birth in 2007, their continued success is ensured by their contagious enthusiasm, loyal West Michigan fanbase, and niche in the region’s thriving roots music scene.
The Legal Immigrants: Are a four piece band rooted in Grand Rapids, MI playing gangster rock music. What’s that?
It’s honest rock n’ roll delivered with a hastily cadence. Far from ‘white boy blues’ and even further from ‘modern rock’. If ‘gangster rock’ STILL doesn’t satiate, we just may fall into the following categories: garage rock, gangster rock, rock ‘n’ roll, punk rock, hard country, pop, soul, funk, psychedelic, alternative, alt. alternative, folk, wold beat, spoken word, new-grass, EDM, soft country, gospel, & more.
O’Shane Thomas: Yet another LSSU student showing off his talent. O’Shane will be the DJ for immediately following the bands.
